dabl Ltd positioned to implement ESRI Report recommendations

Press Release - 23 October 2009

dabl Ltd, a wholly owned Irish company and world leader in the diagnosis and management of a range of cardiovascular conditions has announced that it has the systems and infrastructure in place to address the recently published findings of the ESRI Report “Projecting the Impact of Demographic Change on the Demand for and Delivery of Healthcare in Ireland”.

dabl Ltd is a leading developer and provider of online healthcare systems and research tools for the prevention and management of stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure and a range of other cardiovascular conditions. The systems are currently used in a large number of hospitals, GP practices and pharmacies in Ireland and internationally.

The dabl online systems allow hospitals and community clinics (GPs and Pharmacies) to jointly manage their patients with cardiovascular conditions and share vital information. For patients requiring specialist intervention, secondary care Specialists and GPs/Pharmacists can be linked online, in real-time, at a minimum cost to local and national health services. The result is that more patients are treated locally, significantly reducing the number of journeys required for treatment. The expertise incorporated in the dabl system enables all care providers to achieve the highest standard of treatment possible at the minimum cost.

The RHASP study, a pilot sponsored by the Department of Health and Children, involving a group of GPs and a specialist unit in a Dublin teaching hospital, provides robust evidence that the dabl Cardiovascular system has a significant impact on the reduction of heart attack and stroke in a community. This was done by facilitating prevention of cardiovascular events in the community using computer assisted assessment and management of cardiovascular risk factors using the dabl Cardiovascular system. It was estimated that if the dabl Cardiovascular system was rolled out on a national basis; the incidence of stroke in Ireland could be reduced by 50%.

Bill Rickard, Managing Director of dabl Ltd added that “We have the systems and infrastructure in place now, to lessen the major problems faced by our healthcare service in the future, referred to in the ESRI report. We have in place an online national chronic disease management system linking all the key stakeholders involved in the management of cardiovascular disease, the single largest cause of death and disability in Ireland”.
